$100 Matte Bluing Service

I’m often asked what can be blued for $100 and what will it look like. The Matte Blue is a flat looking low luster with no gloss which is very desirable for hunting rifles so that they don’t shine or reflect sunlight while hunting. A matte surface is also the most durable and long lasting as it holds microscopic oil drops better which protects the metal and finish.

Types of firearms which I charge $100 are mostly bolt action rifles which require little time to dis-assemble and re-assemble. Firearms such as the very common Winchester ’94 like the one in my logo (which contains 87 parts all of which need to be removed) add additional cost for dis-assembly and re-assembly. But one advantage of the Matte Blue in addition to the ones mentioned above is that it can correct some of the worst corrosion damage.

As a picture is worth a thousand words, Here are some pics of a few rifles that would cost $100.

Here are some pictures of a Remington model 7 which was left in the trunk of a car for way too long. This type of problem is cause by a lack of proper oil and care and too much moisture. This can happen in your closet or even in your gun safe if firearms are not stored in a dry space with a light coat of oil. I do not recommend storing firearms in soft cases for extended periods as I have seen too many situations where with even a small amount of moisture rust can form pretty quickly.
